The BARTech 35EF is a one-off. It was built as a chase-boat and tender for the owner of Spirit Yachts' 111ft sloop Geist, drawn by Spirit CEO Sean McMillan with acknowledged inspiration from the 1920s Gold Cup hydroplane Baby Bootlegger. That origin governs everything about how a buyer should read it: there is no price list, no production slot, and no standard specification to compare. If you are shopping a catalogue, this is not on it. If you are in a position to commission bespoke composite engineering and want a foiling electric boat with genuine design pedigree, it is a demonstration that the yard can deliver one.
What the record shows, and what it does not
The credible achievement is the electric-boat record for circumnavigating the Isle of Wight, completed in under two hours at roughly a 23-knot average — a real-world endurance run rather than a show-stand figure, and more informative than the 28-knot top speed and 100 nm range on their own.
Two caveats are worth stating. Motor and battery details have not been disclosed, so the sustained-output picture is incomplete. And Spirit Yachts is a combustion-and-sail builder first; this is a bespoke electric project from a yard whose core business lies elsewhere, so support and parts arrangements should be agreed explicitly rather than assumed.
